'An Experienced Online Bagpipe Teacher (across three continents) with incredible performances at the World Championships and for Royalty in the Scots Guards'
Neil has been playing bagpipes since age 4. He has played for several top Pipe Bands, including Strathclyde Police and Shotts, both World Champions several times over, but is proudest of his time with the Scots Guards, where he has played for Royalty on many occasions. He successfully competed solo until age 19, and returned to professional solo competition in 2010 aged 46, taking many prizes until finally retiring from competing in 2016. His musical experience is unusual for a piper, in that he enjoys playing with folk ensembles, where he also sings, plays whistles and harmonica. He has performed as the soloist for Orchestras, and has numerous recordings under his belt. He has performed in 37 countries.
Neil admits that his greatest pleasure comes from teaching. He has prize-winning pupils on three continents, having taught on Skype since 2011. In 2015 he spent 6 months in Oman, teaching the Royal Oman Police. Neil is a Qualified Teacher and Examination Assessor for the Piping and Drumming Qualifications Board. To supplement his teaching, Neil has, to date, recorded 850 tunes and exercises on his YouTube channel, to assist students' learning.
