Profile
Tom Smith is a professional Cornet, Trumpet and Flugel player from Cornwall. Tom has been teaching online for two years now in both one-to-one and group situations. His passion for online brass tuition comes from his upbringing in Cornwall, where networking and musical progression was challenging due to the remoteness of the area.
Since 2018, Tom has been based in Manchester and this year (2022), he completed his Music Performance degree at the Royal Northern College of Music, graduating with First Class Honours. During this time, Tom studied under Richard Marshall and Professor Roger Webster, and worked his way up the Yorkshire brass band scene, landing his position as the Principal Cornet of the world famous Brighouse and Rastrick Band in 2020, a position he still holds.
Tom is a performing artist with Besson, with whom he does various showcases, masterclasses and performances with. Brought up in Cornwall, Tom played both Cornet and Flugel in the Camborne Junior Contesting Band under MD Alan Pope (BEM) from 2009-2018. From 2014-2018, Tom also played with the Cornwall Youth Brass Band, Cornwall Youth Orchestra, Cornwall Youth Jazz Orchestra, and Cornwall Youth Brass Ensemble. From 2016-2019, Tom played with the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, where he worked his way up from 2nd cornet to assistant principal cornet.
